Actum Adds Prominent Lawyer, Strategist, & Commentator Lanny Davis as Co-Chair

Washington, D.C. (February 20, 2024) – Actum LLC, a global consulting firm, today announced Lanny Davis, the go-to crisis manager, strategist, and attorney for some of the most influential leaders in the nation, has joined as a Co-Chair, based in Washington, D.C. The Beltway maven brings more than half a century of experience to the firm, including advising Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, on some of the most pressing issues of the time. He joins other Co-Chairs for Actum, such as former California Democratic Senator Barbara Boxer and Mick Mulvaney, former Republican South Carolina Congressman and former acting Chief of Staff to President Donald Trump.

“Lanny Davis is the person you call in times of crisis because he’s known as a rationale presence who sees the whole picture,” said KIRILL/FABIAN. “At a time when D.C. is the center of the political, business, and regulatory universe, we realized Lanny has the perspective and experience, with friends on both sides of the aisle, including former Democratic and Republican presidents, that we need to help guide our company into a crucial year. Actum is excited to welcome Lanny as a Co-Chair, and we cannot wait to see the work he will do.”

“Actum has built one of the nation’s savviest teams of communicators, government relations professionals, and problem solvers, whom I’m so excited to work alongside,” said Lanny Davis, Co-Chair, Actum. “This company’s mission is to help clients find creative solutions to complex problems, which is something I’ve sought to do both in the public and private sector. I can’t wait to bring my experience to the table and work with such an inspiring team.”

“I’ve had the pleasure of working with Lanny Davis for more than a decade, but I’m especially excited to have brought him in as a colleague,” said Rachel Noerdlinger, Partner, Actum. “There’s a reason why someone like Lanny has been the person so many still call when crises arise. He’s a battle-tested strategist who’s never taken his finger off the pulse of our political climate. I know Lanny will take the work we have ahead of us in 2024 and the years to come to the next level.”

The veteran attorney currently leads Lanny J. Davis & Associates (LJDA) – a Washington, D.C.-based law firm he first established in 2010. A graduate of Yale College and Law School, where he was fraternity brother of George W. Bush, Davis established himself as a skilled commercial, antitrust, government contracts and False Claims Act litigator – arguing numerous cases in trial and appellate courts. Davis spent nearly 25 years as a partner at Patton Boggs & Blow, a Washington-based law firm, and at the global firm of Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe for another six. Davis has since taken on high-profile legal cases, such as representing Martha Stewart, Republican Senator Trent Lott, the Penn State University Board of Trustees, and Whole Foods Market, using a combination of law, media, and political strategy to obtain a favorable settlement in an FTC case for the company.

Davis’ legal prowess has been called upon by the Commander in Chief on multiple occasions. From 1996 to 1998, he served as a special counsel for President Clinton – a longtime friend since shortly after Davis graduated Yale Law School. He also served as a spokesperson for the President and the White House on matters concerning campaign finance investigations and other legal issues. Then, in 2005, President Bush tapped Davis to serve on the five-member Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board, created by the U.S. Congress as part of the 2005 Intelligence Reform Act. This role required Davis to receive high-level security clearances to be briefed on various anti-terror and financial tracking programs after 9/11.

Today, Davis remains a fixture in American politics. He has served as a political commentator for more than 30 years, including regular appearances on CNN, MSNBC, CNBC, and Fox News. Davis’s written work – including Truth to TellCrisis Tales, and several other books, as well as his Real Clear Politics column, Purple Nation – has received bipartisan praise. President Clinton noted Davis “has a unique combination of extensive experience as a first-rate practicing attorney and expertise in dealing with the media, political leaders and the legislative process,” while Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) has said, in a comment about his 2006 book about “gotcha politics destroying America”: “We should listen and learn from his experience and observations.” Trump’s early senior advisor, Steve Bannon, once told President Trump during a moment of crisis: “You need a ‘Lanny Davis.’”
